Tyrone Spong Fails Drug Test!

Heavyweight bout between Tyrone Spong and Oleksandr Usyk has been called off due to Tyrone Spong failing his drug test, leaving the 2018 fighter of the year and former cruiserweight champion of the world Usyk in search of a new opponent for the 12th October 2019! The second time Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut has been cancelled. There is still time for Usyk to find an opponent, however right now he hasn’t got a fight, but the Wintrust Arena in Chicago is still for Usyk’s heavyweight debut. They just need to find someone to replace Tyrone Spong.

This 12 round bouts could be called off if they don’t find anyone to replace the Neverland fighter. Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is on the hunt as Tyrone Spong came out positive for a banned substance in the body. “My thought is it’s bad because people are trying to use a shortcut and cheat and the other side of the fight is working so hard. It’s completely disrespectful, Usyk wasn’t very happy when he found out, of course. He prepared hard for this fight and the other side is trying to cheat and take a shortcut.” Said Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas! The drug that Spong was in his body was known as Clomiphene, this is used as a fertility drug in women who do not ovulate, also can increase testosterone levels in men.

There are a few roads that Eddie Hearn could go down to get a new opponent for the talented Usyk. Oleksandr Usyk won’t be wanting to have an easy fight and will want to fight someone that could be near the same level as fighters like Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr. He was meant to fight Carlos Takam on the 25th May at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Eddie could potentially get Takam fight again or could go for someone completely different and could fight someone like Dillian Whyte! The fight is still on and could be fighting someone and finding out someone very soon!
