Highly-Controversial Decisions in Boxing!

For years and years now, boxing has had some judges that try and see who won the fight after 12 straight rounds. 10-9 being the opponent has won the round, landing more punches and having more critical hits, 10-8 being when someone knocks down there opponent, no matter what the fighter that got knocked down automatically loses that bout, 10-7 is when someone knocks down there opponent twice in one round. This is how boxing is judged; however, some fans believe judges can be basis towards a boxer and or miss some crucial information. Some may miss some of the action while not looking. Here is a look back at some highly controversial unanimous/split decisions in boxing!

Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder!

This bout took place on the 1st December 2018, for Deontay Wilder’s title, WBC world heavyweight championship. Throughout the fight, Fury was in top form, never missing a punch, always on target and seeming like he never lost his boxing ability! Round 9 and 12 Fury lost because Wilder knocked him down, however Fury pretty much won the rest of the rounds! Once the bout was done and dusted, Fury knew he should have won. Alejandro Rochin scored the bout 115-111 to Wilder, Robert Tapper scored the bout 114-112 in favour of Fury and Phil Edwards scored the bout 113-113, meaning the outcome was a draw! Many fans believe that Fury won the fight… even Wilder would have thought it at one point! There is some evidence out there showing Fury not making the 10 count in time but got to continue fighting, however this was very controversial. They are due a rematch soon!

Manny Pacquiao v Jeff Horn!

Jeff Horn was given a shot for Manny Pacquiao’s WBO Welterweight Championship back in 2017. Pacquiao was dominating every round and even managed to almost stop the contest in the ninth round. Everyone believed that Pacquiao was the winner and did enough to earn the win! However, the three judges didn’t think so! To this day, people are still telling Jeff Horn that he shouldn’t have won the bout.  Waleska Roldan scored the bout as 117-111 in favour of Horn, Chris Flores scored the bout at 115-113 to Horn and Ramon Cerdan scored the bout as 115-113 to the winner Horn! After this bout, no one could believe what they heard! Maybe Jeff Horn just did enough in front of the judges to make them think he was the winner!

Floyd Mayweather v Saul Alvarez!

To many people, Mayweather shouldn’t have won this bout, however he shouldn’t have lost. Many fans believe it was a draw all the way through! Back in 2013, these two went up in a contest that lasted 12 rounds. Canelo was the favourite going into this, since many people thought this was the man that was going to end Floyd’s winning streak. The fight was electrifying, both men throwing punches at each other none stop, and no one wanted to lose the bout! Canelo’s team did say they believe Canelo didn’t win the bout. Some fans believe it was a draw at best! Kenny Bayless scored the bout at 116-112 in favour of Floyd, C.J. Ross scored the bout at 114-114 and Craig Metcalfe scored the bout at 117-111 in favour of the winner Floyd Mayweather. Some people may argue this, but some fans believe Floyd drew that bout!
