
Held the IBO world super featherweight championship back in the year 1999, had a great career, over 20 wins, 12 losses and 1 draw throughout his career, had a couple of fights in his home town of Carlisle, won a few other titles along the way, he was a great fighter but never got a chance to fight for many world titles other than one vacant title… The IBO world super featherweight title. His name is Charles Shepard. This is the career and history of the young fighter that has now retired from fighting.
Charles Shepard was born on the 28th June 1970 in Burnley, Lancashire, United Kingdom however moved to Carlisle, Cumbria, United Kingdom. He started his boxing career in 1991 against Chris Aston, which he managed to win via points decision, referee John Keane scored the bout as 59-58.5 in favour of Shepard, however his win streak didn’t last long since he lost his next bout in 1992 against Allan McDowell via TKO in the third round in Glasgow. Mark Legg was the next opponent on Shepard’s list which he won via Points once again. however, he had a mix of winning and losing throughout his career. On the 31st July 1999, Shepard went up against Tom Johnston for the IBO title, this was a great day for Shepard when he won the fight via unanimous decision! However, lost it the next fight against Affif Djelti! His record was 21 wins, with 8 via KO, losses 12 with 7 via KO and 1 draw!
The former IBO world super featherweight champion won a few more bouts and drew once before retiring from the sport and going on to do other things, he decided to open his own boxing gym in Carlisle but currently doesn’t own it anymore. He won’t be remembered as a legend, but he will be known as a former world champion in the sport of boxing and he will always remember the fight and how it went.
