Over the weekend, Canelo went up against the former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight championship of the world. This fight could of ended up being the fight of the year since this was a historic night and not just for Canelo, but for the world of boxing! This night ended up being great for Canelo, proving to everyone that he could make that 15-pound jump and still be one of the best boxers in the world! The current best pound for pound fighter is truly Saul “Canelo” Alvarez!
Canelo Alvarez is constantly making history in boxing and Saturday night was no different! The bout almost lasted the whole 12 rounds, however the bout ended via TKO in the 11th round! The round ended with a great left hook and right cross to finish him off. Canelo is now at the top of the rankings in the light heavyweight division. Canelo went into the fight with 174lbs as Kovalev went in with 175lbs, the limit of the bout! What will be next for Canelo? He may continue in the light heavyweight division after beating the best fighter in that division and now is known as the best fighter in the light heavyweight division!
Sergey Kovalev has done something like this before. On the 4th August 2018 he went up against Eleider Alvarez for the IBA and WBO light heavyweight championship and lost the bout via KO in the 7th round, however he fought him again on the 2nd February 2019 and won via unanimous decision and then went on and beat Anthony Yarde in his prime! He could go back to fight Canelo and maybe win the bout since he has done something similar with Eleider Alvarez!
