Canelo Vacates WBO Light Heavyweight Championship!

Saul Alvarez went up into the light heavyweight division to fight Sergey Kovalev for the WBO world light heavyweight. The fight almost went the distance but Canelo managed to knockout Kovalev in the 11th round with a great right hook, won the WBO world light heavyweight championship and could of won more in that division, however he has decided to vacate the title and potentially having a mega fight at some point next year! Saul Alvarez could of been the best light heavyweight fighter in the division but he has decided to leave that division!

This could be a huge step for Canelo, he could be going back down into the super middleweight division to fight one of the best fighters in that division… Callum Smith! The current WBA world super middleweight champion! “I know that my accomplishments in the ring have brought pride to my fans and my country, I have long enjoyed my relationship with the WBO and appreciate all they do to preserve and enhance the sport of boxing. This agreement allows the WBO to have its light heavyweight title contested regularly and allows me to pursue bouts against the best opponents, regardless of weight class.” Said Canelo!

Callum Smith vs Saul Alvarez would be a great fight for Canelo and Callum Smith, there has been a lot of rumours circulating around this fight, however the rumours may be coming true. Callum Smith has been wanting this fight for some time now and some people believe he is the man to stop Canelo like Floyd Mayweather did back in 2013, however he has improved a lot since this one fight!
