Canelo Stripped of IBF Title!

Canelo Stripped of IBF Title!

Former IBF champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has been stripped of his IBF middleweight championship recently due to him not negotiating a deal with the Sergiy Derevyanchenko this past week, the reason why he’s been stripped of his title is due to the IBF board told Canelo he has to fight Derevyanchenko since he is number 1 contender for that title, or mandatory champion in a way. Therefore, the IBF title has been taken off Canelo and will now be vacant for anyone to try and fight for it, however Derevyanchenko will be the one who can have a shot at this title, due to him being mandatory for it!

The IBF already allowed multiple postponements of this bout, however before being stripped of his title, Derevyanchenko’s team said to the IBF board that it was okay not to strip the IBF middleweight title off Canelo and give them more time to work on a deal that could save him from losing his title, however he didn’t get a deal done and now has been stripped of his title and will have to try and regain it back when he gets the opportunity to in the future. Derevyanchenko’s promoter Lou DiBella didn’t want to discuss the details of any of the deals that Alvarez promoters were disclosing. “I will confirm that we did not reach a deal by the IBF deadline.” said Lou DiBella.

IBF title on the line against Jacobs

Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo tried one last ditch effort to retain the IBF title and see if the IBF board would allow it. They said they would have a unification bout with Demetrius Andrade, meaning after that bout Canelo and Derevyanchenko would have a championship bout for every title! But… The IBF board wasn’t having it, since they gave Canelo a deadline and he didn’t get a fight in that time, so they have taken the title off him. Canelo still owns the WBA super title but hasn’t got the IBF and WBA middleweight titles, he will be back to reclaim them, it’s just when it happens!
