Daniel Cormier put his heavyweight belt on the line this past weekend as he faced Stipe Miocic. The two had met previously, with Cormier coming away with the victory on that occasion. Tables were turned on Saturday night though when Miocic took the belt from Cormier with a TKO victory in round 4. The two had put on a good performance until that point, with Cormier looking good until he was caught. After the fight Cormier has said he wants some time with his family to discuss his future, and whether or not he wants to continue fighting. Miocic meanwhile is now looking forward to his first title defence – many expecting that to come as early as late autumn
The co-main event, featuring fan favourite Nate Diaz and former champion Anthony Pettis could easily have been the main event on any card. Diaz’ relentless approach saw him come out victorious by way of a unanimous decision. After the fight, Pettis disclosed he broke his foot delivering a head kick to Diaz, which will see him sidelined for a good while. Diaz meanwhile called out Jorge Masvidal – another fight that most fans will be eager to see – sooner rather than later!
