2 Legends of the Ring!

In boxing, we have a lot of legends that have either made an impact to the sport and made it what it is today, or caused chaos in the ring and showed the world they are the best in the world, either way they are legends for a reason, some people would instantly think of Mike Tyson, Joe Frazer and Muhammad Ali, however this list will include some legends in boxing that some fans out there may not know, they have either proven to be one of the best boxers or have a great record that made them who they are today.

Rocky Marciano

Rocky was born on the 1st September 1923 in Brockton, Massachusetts, USA. He started his legendary boxing career in 1947 and no one expected him to have such a successful career and become the second-best fighter to have a perfect record, first is currently Floyd Mayweather with 50 wins. His first fight was against Lee Epperson, which Marciano won in the 3rd round via KO. He then went unbeaten for the whole of his career and being able to knockout 43 opponents out of 49! Just worse than Deontay Wilders record, 41 wins 40 KOs and 1 draw. Rocky Marciano had more the 7 titles defences overall and held the title from 1952 till 1955. At the age of 45 he unfortunately died and his efforts and record in boxing will be remembered. “I was a strong guy who trained hard but didn’t have the talent of Sugar Ray Robinson.” Rocky Marciano once said.

Sugar Ray Robinson

Sugar Ray Robinson was born on the 3rd May 1921 in Vidalia, Georgia, USA. Sugar Ray Robinson was rated as one of the best boxers in his time in the middleweight division. He started his boxing career on the 12th September 1949 when he went up against Charley Dodson. Instead of fighting 4 rounds, Sugar Ray Robinson went all out and fought in 10 rounds instead of just 4 rounds and still managed to win in the third round. He won his first world title on the 20th December 1946 and successfully held that title for several years. His record shows he was one of the best in his prime, 202 contests, 175 wins, 6 draws and 19 defeats, with 2 no contests. He was considered one of the best in the world. “You are an Artiste, like a musician or a dance, and you will see, the people will react to you like an artiste” Once said Sugar Ray Robinson.
