This news comes soon after people have voiced their concerns about the increasing amount of enriched Uranium Iran is producing – which is a vital part of a nuclear bomb.

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was attacked near the countries capital, Tehran, and was rushed to hospital soon after.

He was rushed to hospital soon after the attack, and was later pronounced dead.

In a statement on Friday, Iran’s defence ministry said: “Armed terrorists targeted a vehicle carrying Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the ministry’s research and innovation organisation.

“After a clash between the terrorists and his bodyguards, Mr Fakhrizadeh was severely injured and rushed to hospital.

“Unfortunately, the medical team’s efforts to save him were unsuccessful and minutes ago he passed away.”

Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif has said the attack was “an act of state terror”.

Fakhrizadeh was heavily involved in the countries nuclear operations according to Western intelligence agencies.

“If Iran ever chose to weaponise (enrichment), Fakhrizadeh would be known as the father of the Iranian bomb,” a Western diplomat told media back in 2014.

Iran, however, has always insisted that the nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.

Previously, between 2010 and 2012, four other nuclear scientists from Iran were assassinated, with Israel being the main suspect in the eyes or Iran.

Fakhrizadeh was mentioned previously in 2018 by the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, when he was discussing Irans nuclear plans.
