A women who had her own reusable mask was left shocked and disgusted after she was made to wear a disposable one – that had already been used by another passenger.

Bluebell Wooi was flying back from Italy with Ryanair when she was told she had to wear a surgical disposable mask, as oppose to the one she had with her.

The one she had been wearing would have done fine, but due to plane guidelines she apparently “had to” wear a disposable surgical face mask – which is fine but it kinda defeats the point of wearing a mask, if you’re wearing a used one.

She was left with no option but to ask fellow passengers aboard the plane if they had any spare, and the best anyone could come up with was one they found on the plane which was there prior to boarding and was dirty.

To make matters even more bizarre, Bluebell says the very staff who said her mask wasn’t suitable, were wearing reusable masks themselves! (Some of them anyways.)

Bluebell, from North London, said: “It was dirty and I really didn’t want to [wear the used mask].

“I showed it to the Ryanair staff and was told I must wear that mask over my own.

“I just think it’s completely bonkers. It doesn’t make any sense to wear a mask used by a stranger over my own reusable one.”

“And to make things even more bonkers, all the cabin crew on board the flight were wearing reusable masks themselves, so I don’t know what it was all about.

“No one else seemed to be told to put on another mask as far as I could see other than the man in front of me.

“I don’t know if there was some kind of memo I missed about wearing a disposable mask over a reusable one, but if there was one, I didn’t receive it.”

She was on the plane with her 72 year old grandma, after they enjoyed a trip to Italy together, so it wasn’t exactly the best end to the holiday.

It’s not clear whether her grandmother was made to wear a mask like Bluebells, or whether she already had a disposable one with her.

Ryanair, when speaking about the situation, said: “In line with the requirements set out in the Italian Decree, DCPM N.15, 7 Aug, the use of surgical face masks is mandatory on all flights to, from and within Italy.

“Customers are informed of this requirement by email and SMS ahead of their journey, as failure to comply can result in passengers being denied boarding.”
