Luca Corberi, a professional Italian carter, has apologised after throwing his bumper onto the track after crashing – and assaulting another driver.

The 23 year old threw his bumper in anger at one of his rivals after crashing, which could have caused some injury. He has since faced calls to leave the sport and has more recently apologised on social media.

His outburst was caught on camera and can be watched below.

In an emotional facebook post, he wrote: “I’d like to apologise to the motorsport community for what I’ve done. There are no excuses to explain why I’ve done such a disgraceful act, this has been something I’ve never done in my 15 years of career, and I really hope it won’t be seen by anybody else in the future.

“After the race, once I’ve been called by the sporting judges, I’ve asked them to take my license away because i was fully conscious about my irreparable mistakes, but as they showed me, they don’t have the power for doing it, it’s written in the international rules, so please, don’t be against them, they were just doing their work in the best way they could.”

His outburst continued after the bumper incident too, with him getting into a physical altercation with another driver not long after the race finished. It’s safe to say he’s embarrassed himself and his fans.

He seems to have taken some time to reflect on his actions and listen to supporters, because this wasn’t his first outburst on the racing track.

Luca has since decided to never race again, and asked the powers that be to take his licence from him.
