Prime minister Boris Johnson announced last night that tougher measures to stop coronavirus spreading are in effect “immediately”.

The PM said all but essentially workers HAVE to stay home now, and that Police have powers to force people go home and issue fines for ignoring the rules.

The new measure include:

  • Shops selling “non-essential goods” including clothes and electronics stores will be closed immediately
  • Libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and places of worship will also close
  • Gatherings of more than two people (excluding people who live together) will be banned
  • There will be no weddings or baptisms but funerals will be allowed
  • Parks will remain open but people are only to go out to exercise once a day

And non essential travel is now banned, with people only being allowed out for the following:

  • Infrequently shopping for food and medical essentials
  • Going and collecting medication
  • Exercise once a day outside

These tougher measures were put in place after people ignored the Prime Ministers previous requests to have people stay away from eachother.
