The UK, alongside the rest of the world, are still in a global pandemic that is surging more and more cases each day and could start another spike if the UK is not careful. The second spike has been warned by health experts around the world and even our very own NHS staff has said there could be another spike if everyone stops following the rules and regulations provided by the government, however with this in mind, the UK has lost a lot of stores and shops everywhere which could leave more people unemployed this year!
Research suggests that the unemployment rate could rise from 3.9% to 9% this year, following the coronavirus, and the economy will shrink by 11.5% this year, worse than the 8% that was predicted a month ago. This is due to the virus being so deadly and spreading around the world within a couple of months. The research suggests that the economy might not even recover until 2024 if this rate keeps happening and the virus is still here in the next year or so! The virus has caused a lot of jobs to go and many people to go onto the furlough scheme provided by the government.
Right now, the UK is slowly getting back to normal but the infection rate is creeping back up ever so slightly, with Spain getting over 1,000 a day and the UK getting over 700 a day instead of the normal 500 a day. Covid-19 is not a normal virus and has got everyone stuck, however, it is slowly but surely going!
