Hong Kong International Airport is attempting to disinfect travellers of Coronavirus in 40 seconds, with the help of some robots.

One of the new booths.

They’ve started trailing these new technologies recently, with the obvious goal of disinfecting travellers and protecting others from the virus.

Steven Yiu, Deputy Director, Service Delivery of the Hong Kong Airport Authority, said: “The safety and wellbeing of airport staff and passengers are always our first priority.

“Although air traffic has been impacted by the pandemic, the AA spares no effort in ensuring that the airport is a safe environment for all users.

“We will continue to look into new measures to enhance our cleaning and disinfection work.”

Before entering the booths, known as ‘CLeanTech’ booths, they will have their temperature taken. These booths are the tool that are said to disinfect people of the virus in a claimed “40s”.

There was an explanatory report about the booths, explaining that: “Sanitising spray is also applied for instant disinfection. The channel is kept under negative pressure to prevent cross-contamination between the outside and inside environment.

”The airport is also trialling applying antimicrobial coatings at all passenger facilities.

“An invisible coating to destroy germs, bacteria and viruses is applied to high-touch surfaces in the terminal, including handles and seats of Automated People Movers and passenger buses, smart check-in kiosks and check-in counters, toilets, seating area in the terminal, baggage trolleys, elevator buttons, and more.”

The results and trails so far of such products look promising. And if they turn out to be successful enough at killing the virus and keeping people safe, they may turn into permanent disinfection measures, possibly adopted in airports all around the world.
