Following the awful explosion that happened on Tuesday in Beirut, an animal charity is helping locals and their pets reunite.

The group, Animals Lebanon, is helping pets and owners come together after some were separated due to the destruction of buildings and surroundings, and other such tragedies.

The executive director of the charity, Jason Mier, said the reunions were “making people happy” during an “overwhelming” time in the country.

He said: The goal really now is to reunite people with their lost pets, and that’s been working well, we’ve found owners of at least 20 dogs and cats so far.”

The group are also working hard in regards to recovering and treating pets. It’s one of the hardest times they’ve faced as a company, and everyone clearly appreciates the good work they’re doing!

We’ve been contacted a couple of hundred times so far since last night, we are the main animal welfare organisation in the country.

“So far today we have had more than 40 people out, working in teams of two or three, and that has been ongoing since 8pm last night.

“The goal is to keep going, I know we’re doing good stuff, I know we’re making people happy, but it’s overwhelming for everybody.”

Besides animals, the city is working hard to recover from the awful explosion, where over 130 people have sadly been confirmed dead. The blast was caused by an explosive substance that was being stored in a warehouse unsafely. It was set to be used for fertiliser.

On Wednesday, Lebanon’s president Michel Aoun said: “No words can describe the horror that has hit Beirut last night, turning it into a disaster-stricken city.”

If you want to donate to help the recovery of the Lebanese people, there are many organisations currently taking donations.
