Takeaway Facemask Rules Revealed

There has been a bit of confusion regarding the face mask rules coming into effect tomorrow, but they seem to have been mostly cleared up now.

Masks will be mandatory in shops from Friday.

Shoppers who refuse to wear masks will be at risk of being fined £100 starting from tomorrow, with those who have genuine medical reasons as exceptions. Supermarkets, high street shops, and Coffee shops and restaurants all fall into this category, yet they are all affected in different ways.

Confusion arose once people started asking questions about why they’d have to wear a face mask in Mcdonald’s, but don’t when they’re sitting in a restaurant. We finally have the answers to those questions.

In stores, you will have to wear face masks. With the exception of health issues that prevent you wearing one, or if you’re dining in. It’s impractical to wear a face covering when sitting down and eating, so those who are planning to sit down in a restaurant such as Mcdonalds, don’t need to wear a face mask if they do so. However, those who are taking away food and drink from a business, and consuming it elsewhere, must wear a face mask or covering when they’re inside. Whether that’s waiting in the queue, or interacting with staff.

The Northern Ireland Secretary expanded on these rules, saying: “Obviously if you’re in a food outlet it’s not practical to wear a face mask.

“What changes from tomorrow is if you’re in a retail environment, if you’re in a shop or a supermarket, you should be wearing a face mask.

“If you’re going into Pret a Manger and you are eating in Pret a Manger, which in some of their stores you can, then obviously you wouldn’t be wearing a face mask because you’re eating.

“But it’s clear, good common sense that if you’re going in to buy a takeaway, and leaving again, you’re treating it like a shop – and you should be wearing a face mask.”

Ministers just urge to use common sense. If you don’t need to take your mask off, then don’t it’s as simple as that. Reasonable excuses, as mentioned multiple time’s, include eating in, so it’d be very impractical to keep it on, or if you have an issue that prevents you wearing one, such as asthma.

When dining in it’s also handy to keep a mask on you, just in case a situation arises where you need to put it on.
