Sadly the war in Syria has returned to the northwestern region of the country, which had benefitted from a cease-fire since last September. The escalation seems to have been caused by a takeover of the enclave in January by the jihadist alliance Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which is in violation of the terms of the cease-fire which required jihadists to withdraw altogether. Although the Pro-Government and Russian forces are purporting to be attacking jihadist positions the sad truth is that in the action 12 medical facilities and nine schools have been targetted either directly or as collateral damage. This has inevitably led to the deaths of Women & Children.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, has indicated the recent civilian death toll is 77.  Forty-Nine rebels and jihadists, and 36 pro-government fighters have also been killed.

Sadly this war shows no sign of ending and this will only heap misery on those already suffering.
