The incumbent military council and an opposition alliance have announced steps towards full civilian rule in Sudan. The Country has been ruled by a military council since the deposing of President Omar al-Bashir on 11 April 2019. When the Coup, led by Lt General Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf took place, the government was dissolved and the constitution suspended with the aim of a two-year transition period back to civilian rule.

The latest agreement has changed this to a three-year transitional administration with a parliament dominated by opposition groups, however, the Military remains and appear to intend to hold top tier control during these three years.

The situation has led to considerable unrest and a number of civilian deaths of late. It will need greater clarification before the protests end.
