The education secretary has confirmed that not all children will be going back to school at the same time, also suggesting that students won’t be back in classrooms until autumn time.

Gavin Williamson said today that there is still no set date for schools to re open as normal, but he did mention how it would be “staggered”.

He said this taking into account that it things happen too soon, some groups, such as ethnic minorities, will be put at big risk due to Coronavirus.

Mr Williamson said: “The decision to return schools in a phased manner will be made right across government in the best interests of the schools and the teachers, making sure all considerations are taken on board.

“We are looking at many countries across the globe which are some weeks ahead of us – such as Germany and Denmark.”

He also promised teachers and head teachers plenty of notice.

Despite this, we mustn’t forget that some schools are remaining open. Official figures show turnout last week was below 2% of all pupils the country. Many of these will be vulnerable children or households with people particularly susceptible to the virus.
