It goes without saying that drinking water is pretty important to us humans… I mean it keeps us alive and all.

H2O.

It’s recommended that you drink anywhere between 8 and 15 glasses of water a day, so around 2.5 to 3.5 litres daily. This total amount can also come from things such as juices, coffee and teas.

A surprising amount of people don’t enjoy drinking water, however, and many people don’t drink nearly as much as they should. Pure water just by itself is the best way to add to your water intake, as, essentially, it gives your kidneys less to filter out, and doesn’t have as many contaminates.

Apart from, you know, keeping you alive, there are some pretty cool and helpful benefits that water provides the drinker. Don’t expect many benefits if you only drink a litre or so of fluids a day though, you only start to reap the rewards after taking in a good 2 litres and more.

  • It may improve memory and mood

Research has shown that water can boost your mood and memory – hydration is important for the mind AND body clearly!

  • Can help reduce constipation

Constipation can be quite painful for some people, and it’s often down to not drinking enough water. Water basically softens bowel movements and helps them pass easier – if you were wondering how it worked…

  • Headache and migraine prevention

Another one. Drinking not enough water can give you headaches and migraines. Stay hydrated to prevent these nasty symptoms.

  • Weight loss

Water helps with your metabolism. And, along side that, if you don’t drink enough, your body starts to hold water more, giving the illusion that you’ve gained weight. As soon as you start hydrating yourself again, you should lose this excess water weight. Water can also make you feel fuller, which may make you stop snacking as much, and eat smaller meals.

That’s just a few of the great benefits. Your skin, and other parts of your body can benefitted too by drinking water, but I’ll leave you to research those yourself.

Taking in too much water can be a serious medical emergency, though. (But don’t worry, it would be quite hard to overdose on water). Water can fill up your cells in your body if you drink too much, which can have some very bad effects. It just shows that moderation with everything is key, and that too much of a good thing is a bad thing! Now, go get a glass of water!
