Saudi Arabia has decided to end its anti-corruption campaign – which the sceptic would argue was simply a power grab by the incumbent head Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Around 381 princes and assorted Billionaires (many of whom supported his ascension to power) were summoned, and many were detained and rumoured to have been tortured.

The net result is that the Saudi State has recovered $100bn and possibly deflected some world attention away from the debacle in the Yemen and the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The country still has a way to go as it ranks 58th in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index.
