Gym chain PureGym has announced that it will be opening its doors to customers from the 27th of July.

Gyms, were the type of business that were closed pretty early in the pandemic, due to the risk of everyone being so close inside the gym and touching the same items. However, so far they’ve been one of the last facilities to reopen in the UK, with pubs, restaurants and other businesses in the hospitality sector opening first. Many gym-goers have been anxiously waiting to hear just some sort of news about gyms, and have been getting quite frustrated about the delay in reopening them. But, from the 25th of July, gyms can start reopening, and popular gym chain PureGym has announced it will be opening its doors again on the 27th of July.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said at yesterday’s briefing: “From Saturday 25th people will no longer have to work out in their park or on their living room floor.

“They’ll be able to get back into their gyms, their indoor swimming pools, their leisure centres and jump on that spin bike or treadmill for the first time in months.”

But PureGym clearly want a few more days to prepare, as they’ve chosen the 27th to reopen. In their own statement, they said:

“We’re excited to announce the reopening of our gyms, and we can’t wait to welcome you back soon!

“The Government has just given gyms in England the green light to reopen and we are happy to announce that we will welcome our members back into our gyms in England from Monday 27th July.

“Our gyms in Northern Ireland are leading the way by reopening tomorrow, and we couldn’t be more excited for our team and members there. We hope our gyms in Scotland and Wales will soon be able to follow suit.

“Research shows that gyms play a vital role in helping the nation stay physically and mentally fit, so we’re thrilled to be able to reopen again and help get the nation back to fitness.

“At PureGym we always put our members first. That’s why we’re committed to providing you with a cleaner, safer place for you to train, with everything you need for a great workout.”

There have been a few previews of what the layout will be like inside PureGyms buildings once they do reopen, and it involves a lot of social distancing, regular cleaning of equipment, and people keeping to themselves. But regardless of whether it will be a bit different and weird working out that way, at least gym junkies have got their fix back!
