Pizza hut, the well loved food franchise, is set to close 29 restaurant soon, which will leave many people jobless.

I’m sure we all have fond memories of Pizza Hut – but your local restaurant may be closing soon.

The move is ultimately due to the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to disrupt business despite many venues reopening. Pizza Hut said “sales are not expected to fully bounce back until well into 2021.”

They mentioned that jobs including delivery drivers and jobs at other related franchise locations won’t be affected by the cuts.

They are currently trying to solve their debts – because it’s not like they want to cut jobs and close restaurants.

A Pizza Hut Restaurants spokeswoman said: “We are committed to doing the right thing, and in order to secure as many jobs as possible and continue serving our communities, we are working to reach an agreement with our creditors.

“While we are likely to see 29 Hut closures and 450 job losses, any measures we take aim to protect about 5,000 jobs at our remaining 215 restaurants, as well as the longevity of the business.

“We understand this is a difficult time for everyone involved. We appreciate the support of our business partners and are doing everything we can to help our team members during this process, including speaking with those affected by the consultation.”

A rival food franchise Pizza Express also announced that jobs will be cut earlier this week, with over 1100 jobs currently on the line. They are also closing branches – but many more, with 73 set to close soon.

Business seemed to have been slowing down before the pandemic though, the company revealed, as profits had been declining for the past 3 years, even before the pandemic.
