Peru’s Ex-President Alan García Denied Asylum In Uruguay

In the latest twist in the sordid fall out from Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht’s huge web corruption, Ex-President of Peru Alan García has tried to seek asylum in Uruguay. Quite wisely they have refused. He initially tried by entering the Uruguayan Embassy and currently, his whereabouts is unknown. Given that political opposition leader Keiko Fujimo has been put on remand form three years while the investigations continue you can see why he has done a runner.

Currently, the Peruvian authorities are investigating García for possibly accepting Odebrecht bribes during his presidency from 2006 to 2011.
