Liverpool were officially crowned champions of England last night, after beating Chelsea at home.

This caused thousands of fans to gather near Anfield in celebration of the triumph. Merseyside Police soon after issued a dispersal order to try and clear out the thousands of fans at Anfield.

Nine arrests were made at various points in the evening, with offences such as being drunk and disorderly, drink and drug driving, affray, and assault causing the arrests.

Just as there was when Liverpool fans found out their club were due to be crowned champions, there was a lot of rubbish in the streets after everyone cleared out, which the Mayor of Liverpool went on to address, saying he was thankful for those who helped clan up.

Police said the order was put in place at 21:30 “following increased numbers of people gathering near the ground”. Captain Jordan Henderson and LFC legend Kenny Dalglish had also called for fans to stay away from the ground, to try and prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

Merseyside Police’s Assistant Chief Constable, Natalie Perischine, said “the vast majority of the crowd were good natured and had dispersed by 02:00 BST”.

“Thankfully we didn’t see the sort of incidents of disorder and criminal damage we saw at the Pier Head on 27 June, the investigation into which has seen more than 20 arrests made to date,” she added.

“We would like to thank the overwhelming majority of Liverpool fans who listened to that advice and celebrated their team’s success at home,” she said.
