Mobile users are now able to switch networks by sending a single text and take their old number with them within 24 hours under new regulator rules.

Customer had to phone their mobile provider when they want to switch to a new mobile firm. They were given a porting authorisation code (PAC) to give to a new provider if they wanted to keep the same phone number. 

 The new way to switch networks comes after customer complaints about it being difficult to switch providers. Ofcom have said the new text-to-switch process will make it easier and quicker for customers to leave their mobile company. 

Ofcom’s consumer group director Lindsey Fussell said: “Breaking up with your mobile provider has never been easier thanks to Ofcom’s new rules.
