A fugitive who has been on the run for over 15 years has been caught and arrested at the John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.

Mark Anthony Fitzgibbon.

Mark Anthony Fitzgibbon, now 49, was arrested upon his arrival at the airport recently, it has been revealed. He was initially sentenced back in 1999, for supplying class B drugs, where he was sentenced to 8 years in prison. He was recalled in 2004.

Mark was detained at around midnight last night, when a Ryanair plane that he was aboard landed.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We know Fitzgibbon was abroad for a while but like many fugitives he wrongly believed he could evade capture.

“There is no safe haven for fugitives and time is no barrier to the pursuit of justice.

“We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners across the world to pursue these individuals.”

Its unclear what’s his fate will be, but we can assume prison time.

He’s been wanted again for a long period of time, after he was suspected of large scale drug trafficking many years ago, and more recently police found 84kg of cannabis and 57kg of amphetamine powder at an address in Liverpool linked to Fitzgibbbon back in 2011.

He was on the crimestoppers database for the most wanted criminals who’re on the run; he is believed  to have been staying in Holland.
