Police are searching for a missing British backpacker missing in New Zealand say they are concerned for her safety.

Grace Millane’s father is said to be on his way to the country where hid 22-year-old daughter vanished on Saturday. Grace, from Essex, was last seen at 7.15pm in Auckland’s Sky City complex and did not respond to any birthday messages on her birthday the next day. Det Insp Scott Beard said that the Auckland City Police have more than 20 staff working on the case.

Grace is seen wearing a black dress and white shoes, believed to be Converse shoes.

Several unconfirmed sightings have been reported of Grace Millane. Police will continue to investigate each sighting in hope of finding where she is.

Grace graduated from the University of Lincoln in September and has been travelling alone in New Zealand for two weeks following group travelling through South America. Her brother has said that it was her dream to travel and see the world.

Her family said they have spoken to her “most days” and her silence as “completely out of character”. Mr Millane said she had two mobile phones with her in New Zealand, but calls go straight to voicemail.

The family has posted pleas on social media in the hope other travellers in New Zealand can help in the search.

“Clearly this is a very stressful time for Grace’s family and the longer she remains missing the more our concern grows for her safety and wellbeing,” says Detective Inspector Scott Beard of Auckland City Police.

“It’s important that anyone who recognises Grace from this photo or saw her on Saturday night contacts Police immediately on 09 302 6970.”
