After almost 30 years of owning businesses in Russia, it is believed that Russia will now no longer have one of the fastest growing fast food chains in the world anymore. McDonald’s will no longer have any restaurants in Russia once all 850 restaurants are sold!
This has came quite soon after McDonald’s “temporarily” closed all the branches in Russia after the war broke out and now they are willing to sell all of them and never return to Russia due to the war.
The chain first opened in Moscow back in 1990, once the Soviet Union was opening it’s economy to Western brands. Since then, McDonald’s have opened over 800 more restaurants across Russia and now will be selling them all and never returning to Russia, as so they have stated that.
In a recent interview with the Chief Executive Chris Kempczinski, he said that;
The announcement was “extremely difficult” but it wanted to stick to its values. Our commitment to our values means that we can no longer keep the Arches shining there.”
The chain has said that even though they are selling the brand in Russia, the 62,000 employee’s that work there will still get paid until the sale is complete and ensuring that the employee’s that are working there right now will have a “future employment with any potential buyer” .
