June Jones’s sister reported her missing on Boxing Day and she was discovered on New Year’s Eve at her west Bromwich flat by officers.

A manhunt is still on going for suspect Michael Foran who is the ex-partner of Ms Jones. He travelled to Liverpool in the aftermath of her disappearance and CCTV images picked him up leaving West Bromwich on New Year’s Eve; he was then spotted on CCTV at an Esso garage in the Anfield area. Michael Foran is said to be dangerous and should be avoided.  Uk ports have been put on alert alongside police in Ireland as he may be travelling to Ireland to meet with his family.

Det Insp Warren Hines, from force homicide, said: “We’re working hard to establish the full circumstances around the tragic death of June, and urgently need to trace Michael Foran.

“We have had officers in Liverpool searching for him for the past few days, and are now appealing for the help of the public.

“Michael Foran is a dangerous individual. If he is spotted, we need people not to approach him but to phone 999 immediately.”

Det insp Hines said Mr Foran had been living with Ms Jones at the address her body was found. Detectives arrested a 34-year-old man from the Charlemont Farm area on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A forensic post mortem was conducted yesterday and did not reveal the medical cause of death. However, there was evidence of a ‘sustained and brutal assault with a weapon’, her death is still being treated as a murder. An item has been recovered and is undergoing forensic testing.

The West Midlands force said it had referred itself to the independent Office for Police Conduct because Ms Jones had been reported on December 26th but has not be commented on why it took five days for her to be found.

Det Insp Warren Hines said Mr Foran was the “only person they are actively seeking”.

“June has lost her life, we suspect at the hands of somebody she should have been able to trust, in her own home – the place where she should have been able to feel safe,”

“In my view, it doesn’t really get much worse than that.”
