The sikh community in Kent has made waves online after their kind actions were noted by the public.

Currently, due to border closures related to Brexit, hundreds of drivers are stuck in their lorries near kent.

The drivers aren’t sure when they’ll be moving again, so it’s a troubling time for them, especially with Christmas so close by.

However, the kindness of Sikhs from the Gravesend Gurdwara was illustrated after it was reported online that they cooked up over 800 delicious meals in around 3 hours for the stranded truckers.

500 chickpea curries and 300 mushroom and pasta dishes we’re quickly made by a group of kind volunteers, and then once cooked, these meals were collected from the kitchen by Khalsa Aid founder Ravinder Singh who delivered them to the drivers with the help of police.

Regarding the aid, a spokesman for the Guru Nanak Darbar Jagdev Singh Virdee told Kent Online: “They got in touch this morning about 12 o’clock and by 2.30pm they came to collect the food.

“We made some phone calls to get volunteers together because we are already doing Langar, where we deliver to vulnerable people.”

On Twitter, where the aid group posted news of their work, there was an amazing amount of support and people praising them for their kindness.

The borders are still closed however, and people are being urged to not travel near the areas with disruptions.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “We continue to urge hauliers not to travel to Kent until further notice as we work to alleviate congestion at ports.”
