A ban on junk food advertising across London’s entire public transport network will be introduced next year.

Any posters for food and drinks that re high in fat, salt and sugar will be vanished from the Underground, buses and bus shelters. The London mayor Sadiq Khan has said he wants to tackle child obesity in the capital. The ban is set to take place on the 25th February 2019.

Where exactly is the ban taking place in London?

  • Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles
  • Emirates Air Line
  • Victoria Coach Station
  • Dial-a-Ride
  • Underground
  • TfL Rail
  • TfL-controlled roads (e.g. adverts on roundabouts and bus stops owned by TfL)
  • Docklands Light Railway
  • Overground
  • River services

The plans were first announced in May and 82% of 1,500 respondents to an online consultation backed the proposal.

“Tough action” child obesity was necessary said Mr Khan.

Mr Khan also said: “Reducing exposure to junk food advertising has a role to play in this – not just for children, but parents, families and carers who buy food and prepare meals,”
