A Ford Focus that was pulled over for a simple speeding offence was found to have bags of cash inside of it.

The cash found by the police.

A 21 year old man was pulled over near Kirby for speeding on Thursday night, and it was expected to be a routine stop. Little did the police know they’d find a huge bin bag full of 10s and 20s stuffed in the car.

The photograph above shows the black bin bag full of bundled £10 and £20 notes, with some of them being wrapped in tin foil too.

The man driving the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of handling criminal property and money laundering. He has been released pending investigation.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “Targeted officers patrolling the Kirkby area last night have arrested a 21-year-old male following a stop check on Newstet Road, Kirkby Industrial estate.

“Shortly before 9pm officers spoke to the driver of a Ford Focus as part of a routine stop check.

“During a search of the vehicle officers located a bin bag containing in a large quantity of cash which has been seized by the attending officers.

“The driver was arrested and later taken into custody as part of the investigation.”

The cash has been seized by police, despite the man being let go whilst they investigate the origins of the money and what he was doing with it.
