Matt Hancock referred to Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford as “Daniel” in a recent interview…
Marcus and Daniel sound nothing alike, so I’m not sure where he got confused! He was being interviewed on a live TV showing this morning, where he was addressing the governments free meals scheme, where Marcus played a bit part in getting vulnerable children free meals.
In the interview, talking about the £120 million scheme, the health secretary said: “Righty ho, well I’ll tell you what happened, the Prime Minister talked to Daniel Rashford, he considered it and made his decision.
“I think it’s terrific, I think it’s important we get as much support as possible to people who are in difficult circumstances, especially with coronavirus.”
Ex England striker Gary Lineker took to Twitter to make a light hearted joke about the situation.
Good to see @MattHancock finally giving credit to footballers and Daniel Rashford in particular pic.twitter.com/b3lcqsTcP7

However Matt replied, blaming an early morning on the mistake, and letting Marcus know he’s a credit to the nation!
🤦♂️ Too early. But in all seriousness Marcus you’re a credit to the nation.

Rashford later tweeted: “As I said yesterday this was never about politics or me. The PM didn’t need to u-turn the decision but I’m thankful he did. I asked you to listen and you did that so on behalf of all mums likes mine, dads and carers that are struggling across the country, thank you.”
Marcus initially spoke out on twitter regarding the situation, and later contacted the PM and other MPs, as mentioned above. Many people have praised Marcus for his mature approach to the situation and Marcus himself is impressed with how much change can be made just from people standing up for what they believe in.
