A Kenyan Doctor who managed to perform surgery on nine unsuspecting clients, has been arrested after it was discovered he was a fake Doctor; after working at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital in Kenya for many years.
Ronald Melly, from Kenya, worked for many years at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital in Kenya without anybody noticing that he was a fake doctor.
A report published on forum.facmedicine.com revealed that he performed 9 surgeries without the relevant qualifications; 8 of them being successful. 1 patient is known to have died under his supervision, but she was reported be on “stage 4” of the illness. She was also pregnant, and he managed to somehow save the baby. “During surgeries, he and a group of other doctors carried out, the patient who was then expectant died because she was on ‘stage’ four of the complication but they managed to save the baby,” Mr. Serem, the county health chief, said.
Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagata said “I have never seen the fake doctor and the public should not blame the county government since doctors are employed by the parent ministry. I’ve directed that health staff working in the county be vetted.” But the medical governing bodies in Kenya believe that Mr Melly should be trained to get the qualifications for the job, as he did so well without them. “Since he looks committed to becoming doctor, let the government sponsor him to train as a medical doctor or clinical officer,” Mr. Melly’s uncle, Daniel Tuwei said.
