Later today, Rishi Sunak is set to reveal a multi billion £ bail out that will pay millions of self employed workers in the UK.

The health minister previously said self employed people are “the bedrock of our society and we owe them our support”.

As you may already know, the government will pay pay 80 per cent of the wages of employed workers up to a maximum of £2,500. So it’s going to be interesting to see how the government deal with self employed peoples wages. They have previously said they will “cover any losses.”

PM Boris Johnson said: “There are particular difficulties with those who are not on PAYE schemes as . . . I think the whole House understands. We are bringing forward a package to ensure that everybody gets the support that they need.

“I cannot, in all candour, promise the House that we will be able to get through this crisis without any kind of hardship at all. We will do whatever we can to support the self-employed, just as we are putting our arms around every single employed person in this country.”

“Never in our history has the government put its arms around people in the way we are doing now to help them get through this time.”

And in regards to a scheme to help the self employed, the government said it was significantly harder than tackling the problem of paying employees.

He said: “The government has moved with extraordinary speed to support and prop up the whole of the economy.”

This week the PM announced he wants all non essential shops to close, leaving many out of work.
