Many hay fever sufferers have shared their worries online regarding the Coronavirus. They are afraid that they will not be able to differentiate symptoms.

Bad hayfever symptoms are more common than you might think.

Many hayfever sufferers, including myself, only get a little bit of a nose tickle which by itself surely shouldn’t indicate coronavirus. But despite this, many other people with hayfever actually experience dry chesty coughs and other symptoms shared with the Coronavirus. Luckily, Dr Hilary came into the GMB show to set the record straight and help those in doubt to recognise which symptoms indicate danger and which don’t.

Dr Hilary said: “The interesting thing about hay fever is it doesn’t give you a fever. It’s a complete misnomer.

“Whereas coronavirus often can. One of the cardinal symptoms to look at with coronavirus is a fever over 38 degrees and a dry persistent cough, which is new for you.

“If you have those two symptoms you need to self-isolate. Hay fever is coming in now. People are getting a bunged up nose. That isn’t often a symptom of coronavirus.

“If you haven’t got the two cardinal symptoms of cough, which is new, and fever then you carry on as normal.”

Also, in regards to the testing kits being pushed out, the Dr said that they should not be made available to the general public as of yet, and should be used by professionals in a controlled environment. Saying: “we shouldn’t be selling this to the public. Who is controlling the results and says who can go back to work or not?

“It should be done officially by health care professionals. I hope these won’t be made available on Amazon and Boots to buy. They need to be used by health care professionals first.”
