Temperatures dropped to -13 degrees in parts of the UK last night, making it the coldest night of winter so far.

This temperature was recorded in Scotland, with the lowest temperature being -13 degrees in Loch Glascarnoch. The Met Office issued yellow warnings for snow, ice and fog remain in place for some of Thursday and Friday. More snow is meant to be coming overnight, with up to 15cm possible in parts of Wales and 3 to 7cm in southern England. Southeastern Trains said 21 trains were being cancelled or altered on Thursday morning to minimise the impact of ice forming on the rails and ensure lines were clear. From my recent personal experience, the ice can be quite dangerous and unexpected. The clearest looking roads often have black ice on them if they having been gritted, so it’s very important to be cautious when driving down A and B roads in the coming days.

England, Wales and Northern Ireland also recorded their lowest temperatures of the winter so far – with Redesdale, Northumberland, falling to -10.4C, Sennybridge, Powys, dropping to -9.3C and Magilligan, County Londonderry, falling to -8.5C.
