Boris Johnson has said if people don’t follow government Coronavirus guidelines he will be forced to implement stricter social distancing measures to combat the spread.

Over the weekend, many people went to beaches and parks as normal, ignoring government guidelines. This has lead officials including the Prime Minister to intervene and threaten to take further action.

When asked by press what these actions would include, he mentioned “travel bans”. The Heath secretary has also discussed in length that if people don’t start following guidelines, more serious ones will be imposed.

He told Sky News: “We may have to take further action. This is not the sort of thing anyone would want to do, but we might have to do in order to protect life.”

Despite speculation surrounding a lock down, a senior government source has said a lock down of the capital is “inevitable”.

“The prime minister will have the full support of the cabinet and the country at large if he goes ahead with this,” they said. “It is inevitable, you just have to look at other countries. The sooner you do it the better. The difficulty the government is facing is that the spread of this virus is exponential. We won’t know if what we’re doing is the right thing until it is too late.”

Strangely, though, planes from Italy, China and Iran are still landing in the country, places heavily hit by the virus. At this point some sort of a lockdown seems inevitable, because of the success it’s having in other countries.

At the time of writing over 300,000 cases worldwide have been confirmed, with that number rising every day.
