The wife of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – Sara Netanyahu has been found guilty of “misuse of public funds” (better known as Fraud) but despite “misusing $99,300 she will only pay back $15,267 which includes a fine of $2,777. The leniency is due to a plea bargain, and although she will have a criminal record, it seems rather lenient given she apparently called in outside catering after falsely claiming there were no cooks available at their own residence.

Much has and will be made of the political undertones surrounding the case, however, it once again seems to highlight the growing divide in the legal systems between the haves and have nots. Can you imagine what would have happened to a lower ranking civil servant or member of the general public found guilty of a similar offence? You can be sure it wouldn’t be the case of asking for around 15% of it back.
As it stands Mrs Netanyahu has made a net gain of $84,033 from her crime.
