The Argos catalog is an iconic thing in the UK, that has been around for about 50 years now.

The Argos catalog is 47 years old.

But in case you don’t know what it is, it’s a large book full of all the items you can buy from argos, split into different sections. It’s free, and right there as soon as you walk in the shop usually. It also used to be available in store on the desks; this is how your choose what items you wanted.

But after 50 years, it seems they’re sadly being discontinued.

Some stores around the country still have the books there to assist you whilst you order, but many have now moved to more modern screens. It seems all stores will make this change in coming months, and you won’t be able to take the catalogs home with you anymore either.

This also means you won’t be able to sit in front of the fire at christmas picking out what you want from Argos. Oh to be British.

Mark Given, Chief Marketing Officer at Sainsbury’s, who recently acquired Argos if you didn’t know, said: “Over the decades the Argos catalogue has charted the nation’s changing tastes and trends in everything from must-have toys to the latest gadgets and devices. Today, popular products include wireless earphones, gaming consoles and lots and lots of LEGO.

“In 1973, when the catalogue launched it was point-and-shoot cameras and spacehoppers.

“Just as our customers’ tastes have changed over the years, so have their shopping habits. We’re seeing an increasing shift towards digital shopping, using our mobile app, website and in-store browsers.

“Closing the book on the catalogue will help us focus on delivering exciting and inspiring digital shopping experiences to meet the changing needs of our customers, both in-store and online.”

I’m sure many people in the UK will be sad about this decision because of the memories the catalog made, but you can’t blame Argos for wanting to modernise their business and take steps to improving sales and profits – especially at a time like this where businesses are really struggling.

But anyways, thanks for the memories Argos catalog.
