Well, the 10 day United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC) in Bonn has ended today with lots of talk little action and obstinance by the main fossil fuel producing countries. Those bastions of human rights and friends of the Trump Administration Saudi Arabia has continued to object to a key IPCC scientific report that urges drastic cuts in carbon emissions indicating there were huge benefits in keeping average temperature rises this century to 1.5C compared 2C or more, something that is still possible if drastic cuts in emissions were initiated by 2030. However thanks to their team up with the US, Kuwait and Russia the findings will not be formally recognised.

The sad thing here is that the four main producers of fossil fuels have given the rest of the world a good chance to procrastinate or in the case of Japan try and curry favour with the US on future trade negotiations by  “watering down” commitments in this area in the G20 summit in Japan later this week. With no formal EU commitment and even developing countries like Kenya trying to flout commitments things are only likely to get hotter – as Europe is feeling today.
