
Namibia Hit By Drought Again

For the second time in three years, Namibia has been forced to declare a state f emergency due to another severe drought. This is becoming a recurring pattern and there has been an acute lack of rain in the region since 2013. Despite Namibia being a sparsely-populated country and not well disposed to agriculture it still relies on its own resources for about 30% of its food, and the Government has indicated that 20% of the population are not getting enough food. The Govt has announced an aid package both to provide food to those in need and for the Farmers affected – who have lost significant amounts of livestock due to the water shortage.
It is not clear whether global warming is behind this change in the weather pattern, however, it is unlikely to be helping,
