The Houston Astros are back in the World Series thanks to a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. This keeps up their pattern of winning the ALDS every two years! They have played in the last six and won it in 2017, 2019 & now 2021.

It took the Astros a while to finally stamp their authority on this series and after game three’s 12 – 3 hammering, it looked like the pennant could be on its way to Boston. However, the Astros got their pitching sorted out and after giving up 25 runs in the opening three games they held the Red Sox to only three runs in the remaining games and only 10 hits!
Astros leadoff pitcher Luis Gracia who had a complete disaster in game two more than made up for it on Friday pitching a solid 5.2 innings in which he only gave up one hit. That was pretty crucial as Houston only had a one-run lead before the call to the bullpen came.
The final game remained quite tense until the play below seemed to break the Red Sox spirit.
Houston effectively iced the game with a three-run blast in the 8th and they had the luxury of a walk-off win.

So it’s off to the final for the Astro’s who will face either the Atlanta Braves or the LA Dodgers who they beat in the 2017 series. The Red Sox on the other hand now have several months lament on whether they should have joined the July deadline deals scrum. After all, as their pitching rotation did seem to run out of steam. Given the AL East will be competitive again in 2022 they may need to get their chq book out.
