The A’s remain hopeful that veteran right-hander Trevor Cahill, who has been slowed by an Achilles injury, will be able to avoid the disabled list. On Saturday, though, that meant playing with a two-man bench, after right-hander Chris Bassitt was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to pitch against the Royals in Cahill’s stead.
