Gloucester City AFC or the Tigers as they are nicknamed are the oldest football team in the county of Gloucestershire. They can trace their origins way back to 1883, but technically as that club folded, and reformed in 1889 they are a few years younger.
Whatever they remain one of the counties oldest clubs, and although they have never rivalled the success of neighbours Cheltenham Town they remain one of Gloucestershire’s top teams.
They are also one of the countries most travelled clubs having called numerous stadiums home over their long history, including six different ones since 2007!  This was due to the terrible floods that hit the area, however, they are now back at their original home, having played as far afield as Eversham which is in Worcestershire.
Honours wise they have mainly filled the trophy cabinet with regional cups including an impressive 18 wins in the Gloucestershire Senior Cup Final. They have also been runners up in that competition 35 times, which must be some sort of record?

Gloucester City League Career

They began their league career in the Bristol and District League. They played in various regional leagues thereafter and were winners of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League in the 1933-4 season. Post-WWII they joined the Southern League and remained a member from 1946-7 right up until t2008-09 when they won promotion to the Conference North.

During that time they only managed to add one title to their honours list – winning the Southern Football League Midland Division in 1988–89. They also picked up a couple of promotions during that time and enjoyed their most successful season to date.

This was in 1990-91 when they narrowly missed out on promotion to the National League (tier 5) finishing a narrow 2nd.
