Bowers & Pitsea FC

Bowers & Pitsea FC are one of a number of semi-pro teams playing in Essex. They are based in the town of Pitsea and they currently (2021-22) play in the Isthmian League Premier Division. This is tier 7 on the football pyramid.

They have been around since 1946, initially as Bowers United they were members of the Thurrock and Thameside Combination until the mid-1960s. When the Essex Olympian League was formed in 1966 they joined as founder members of the Essex Olympian League where they stayed for 8 years before joining the Essex Senior League. They were quite successful in this league winning it on three occasions and finished second in 1983-4 all be it well adrift of winners Heybridge Swifts.

The club became Bowers & Pitsea F.C. in 2004 after absorbing Sunday League side Pitsea FC  in 2004/05 and they continued to do well winning the title & promotion to the Isthmian League North Div One in 2015-16. They won it with 96 points and scored 118 goals in their 40 games!

+ 99 Goal Difference!

This surpassed their equally excellent 2014-15 season where they finished a gallant second amassing an impressive 92 points in a 38 game season.  They also scored what we think is a record goal tally for the team of 124. This included numerous high scoring games and they hit 6 goals or more on nine occasions. Overall they only conceded 25 giving them a +99 goal difference! Surprisingly they missed out on the title to Haringey Borough by 11 points but took some consolation in winning the Essex League Challenge Cup.

FA Vase

In 2015-16 Bowers & Pitsea played in 10 FA Vase ties before bowing out losing 4–3 on aggregate in the semis to eventual winners Morpeth Town. This was their best performance eclipsing their previous best, reaching the 4th round in 1998-99.

Bowers & Pitsea FC Recently

In the 2017–18 season Bowers & Pitsea finish third in the renamed North Division, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. However, they lost 2–0 by Canvey Island in the semi-finals. They went one better in 2018-19 though winning the North Division title and with it promotion to the Premier Division. Covid has hampered things since but the future looks as bright as their red & white striped shirts!
