Holland & Barrett is the UK leading health and wellness retailer and it has launched the world’s first zero-waste, vegan beauty bars. One of these bars are selling every five minutes within the first 48 hours of them being released, also there is now over 55,000 on the waiting list for the bar.
The handmade products are called Ethique, they are a range of solid beauty bars. There is everything from shampoo to cleansers and they all have zero waste. The bars launched on July 7th and they were stocked in 840 UK stores. Since the launch of the bars, searches have been up by 300% for the brand and the company’s website saw 13,000 page visits on the launch day.
On average, one Ethique bar is equivalent to three bottles of a comparable product. Since the launch Ethique has already stopped more than 1,728 bottles from manufacture and, subsequently, landfill. The Ethique bars will last up to five times longer than their traditional bottle products and they also come in 100% compostable/recyclable packaging.
Founder of Ethique, entrepreneur and biochemist Brianne West said: “We’re thrilled that a full-range of zero-waste beauty products will now be available on the nation’s high streets at Holland & Barrett stores, helping British consumers give up the bottle. Despite our best intentions as consumers, just 9% of plastic is recycled worldwide, with the rest piling up in landfills or making its way into our oceans. By creating solid bars of beauty products without the water that makes up to 90% of a traditional liquid product, we hope to help combat the plastic pollution problem by providing consumers with a zero-waste alternative. After all, there’s water in your shower – why would you need more in your shampoo?”
