How your scarfs are affecting your skin

If you are experiencing spots or acne around your neck, jaw line or chest it may be down to your scarf. All items of clothing and fabrics attracts sweat, dirt and day-to-day germs that will transfer to your skin leading to nasty breakouts and acne. Your scarf can become unclean if you place it down on a surface, the air or even putting it in your bag., this can multiply the chances of you experiencing breakouts.

It is recommended that you wash your scarfs as often as you wash your clothes.  Dr Meryn Patterson, Skin Expert and Cosmetic Doctor said: “If you wear tight clothing, especially if you’ve worn them before and not cleaned them, they can trap sweat and increase friction and in turn lead to spots,”

“Especially if the material is made man such as polyester. Cotton products work best since they let your skin breathe and let sweat evaporate easier.”

Putting your scarf into the wash is not the only thing you should be doing, you should cleanse your face daily to get rid of any dirt, oils or nasty germs that could already have transferred onto your skin. It is important to get into a good skincare routine as it will help to cleanse the skin of any makeup, sweat and bacteria that is lying on your face ready to turn your skin into unwanted spots. Skin experts recommend a cleanser with salicylic acids. To was your skin correctly here are some tips that you need to follow:

  1. Always use a cloth and cleanser with water first

Remove most of your makeup or freshen your skin with a damp, clean cloth but only use water. This can be plain or micellar water, whichever suits you best. Then used a cream-based cleanser to remove any leftover makeup and debris. The third cleanse should be with plain or micellar water, this will help you remove any residue. Make sure to go over the hairline and neck, missing these areas could lead to bacteria build up and break out acne.

  1. Never use hot water to wash your face

It is important to use lukewarm or cold water to properly cleanse, hot water is not good for the skin it can lead to dilation of blood vessels and breakage of delicate tissue. It can also dehydrate the skin.

  1. Always spend 60 seconds cleansing

Make sure you always spend 60 seconds minimum cleansing your face so you deep cleanse the skin and get rid of any bacteria or anything that can harm your skin. It will be like a mini facial for the skin making it healthier and cleaner.

  1. Add an exfoliator to the mix

Try to exfoliate your skin 2-3 times a week, this will help to remove dead skin cells and helps your skin to absorb any products you have put on your skin. It is best to use an exfoliator with beads in (exfoliators that may seen rough) and do it before you cleanse the skin to freshen up for face.
