UFC Fight Night – Assuncao vs Moraes

UFC Fight Night – Assuncao vs Moraes

The main event from Fortaleza in Brazil featured the bantamweight rematch between Raphael Assuncao and Marlon Moraes and it proved to be a speedy contest.  Both fighters came out with intensity both attempting, and landing a variety of kicks and punches, but Moraes quickly found himself in Assuncao’s half guard and succeeded in landing some significant blows.  Back on their feet, Moraes landed two solid right hands which put Assuncao on his backside, after a few seconds grappling Moraes latched onto a guillotine choke that resulted in tap out from Assuncao.  This makes them one all in their matchups, but there doesn’t seem to be any appetite for a third – especially as in his post-fight interview Moraes called out T J Dillashaw as his preferred next opponent.

The co-main event of the evening was Jose Aldo against Renato Moicano.  Veteran Aldo, got the better of his fellow Brazilian Moicano in round one and was no-doubt encouraged by the obvious favouritism shown to him by the enthusiastic crowd.  Round two began with intensity on both sides, but it was Aldo who secured the referee stoppage, for a TKO victory.  Aldo has made no secret that he is nearing the end of his career, but with such an impressive performance, no-one will see his talents as being on the wane.
